Mart's Real Hot Rods

Presents

Matt's Scrapbook

All the pics on this page were sent in by English rodder and Flathead Meltdown contender Matt Farrant.  Matt takes part in his sweet black A roadster pickup. He says he is in the 'Four cylinder cannon fodder division.' Matt accompanied the pics with detailed notes, reproduced below.
Thanks Matt.
Got some cool pics you'd like to share?  mail me.
 Ian Vaughan's '29 coupe.

Runs a hot flattie - ported & relieved, Offenhauser heads, twin carbs and  Mallory ignition. Has a '40 rear, '39 box, '40 brakes. Ian has now found a '29 phaeton so the coupe body is sold (to Chris Ranstead in Japan) and the tub is going on this frame.

Billy Roe's way cool deuce.

Flatty powered. Glass body but the rest is original (in fact it is a roadster frame and running gear). This hot rod is getting a blown Merc soon.

It and Billy have been around for years and the car was fenderless until this year.
Billy is the big geezer in the black shirt.

Malc Farrant's '30 roadster.

My brother Malc's '30 A roadster. Here it is seen on the road when still 4 banger powered. This car is really clean, was a Pomona car until John Reid imported it. Anyway the 4 banger let go big time so we now have...

...this. A small block Chev is in place, with the Model A rear still hanging underneath. The engine is mounted off a hurst type motor plate (old style) and is hooked to a T10 4 speed to keep the correct amount of pedals...

The rearend is a '36 Ford and will run an open drive halibrand centre section. The front end is the original model A axle and wishbones and '40 juice brakes should have no trouble locking up those cross-plies. The frame will remain unboxed in proper Hot Rod fashion.

Chris Rawlin's '32 Phaeton.

Not much to say except this is one cool Hot Rod. Chris drives the shit out of his tub.
How about cruising at 80mph with his teardrop caravan hooked up! It's only a 21 stud too!

Martin Jones '27 T Roadster and my Model Y coupe. (That's Matt's coupe not mine. Mart)

The T ran a 460 Ford big block - boy was this a fun Hot Rod. One evening in Stratford springs to mind- sideways round all the roundabouts, tyre smoke billowing over the turtle deck and purple flames shooting from the open headers. Aaah! I love Hot Rods. My old Coupe was my first Hot Rod bought when I was 16. It ran a pinto 4 banger and eventually ran 15 second quarters. I've still got it in the garage - bit of a long term project with a Chevy small block going in - It'll be out again one day 'cos I could never sell it.

Martin Grossmith's A Roadster.    (Matt's pickup on left..Mart)

This car is so sweet and Martin still can't believe he owns it. Another car found by Kiwi Steve, and it wasn't big bucks either.

Thought you might want a shot of the Jimmy C striping that Martin had done when it was still in California.
I'd be proud of tackle like that! Check the hairy 'nads!

It's getting a 283 Chevy and manual 4 speed hooked to a halibrand equipped '48 rear end. Other than that it'll look exactly the same. Hell! why change perfection!

Paul Barrow's '30 Tudor.

Pauls coupe, channelled, 'early lil coffin' style. It's going to be full fendered with a sectioned deuce grille shell. Paul has an excellent eye and knowledge of Hot Rod history so this is going to be one cool Hot Rod when it hits the road.
